The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office says deputies shot and killed a domestic violence suspect after a chase on I-80 Sunday morning.

Deputies say they got a call of a 'battered and bloody woman screaming for help' in Rancho Cordova around 10 a.m. As officers responded, they got additional 911 calls as the victim went door-to-door trying to get help. Eventually, one resident let her inside to wait for responding deputies.

Authorities say the victim told officers her ex-husband beat, pistol-whipped, strangled her until she lost consciousness for three days and even 'played dead' until the suspect left the room, which allowed her to run away and seek help.

When deputies arrived at the victim's home, the suspect was gone and the victim's car was missing.

Deputies say they later found the car on Fair Oaks Blvd. and tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver sped off starting a pursuit which finally ended on I-80 east, just west of the Antelope Road exit. That's when authorities say deputies shot and killed the unidentified suspect.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's office says no deputies were hurt. They will be placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.

California Highway Patrol is investigating while a parallel investigation is being conducted by the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Professional Standards Division. An independent review will also be conducted by the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office.
