New body-camera footage from the Reno Police of a shooting on I-80 from August is now available below.
The shooting happened on August 23 between Mogul and Boomtown. A car had been spotted by a sergeant with the Reno Police Department, and when he arrived on the scene, he said 22-year-old Anthony Porter was out of the car and holding a gun.
Video shows the officers attempting to negotiate with Porter and ask him to drop his weapon.
“Members of our Crisis Intervention Negotiation Team responded and communicated with the suspect through use of our Public Address System, in an effort to peacefully resolve the situation,” said Reno Police Chief Corey Solferino. “During the encounter, the individual repeatedly told officers to shoot him.”
Porter did not put down his weapon, and police say he instead pointed it at officers.
This is when video shows police open fire, killing Porter.
The gun was recovered by police at the scene.
“The decision to use force in defense of another person is never taken lightly,” said Chief Solferino. “It should never become routine, and we should never lose sight of the human consequences surrounding these events.”
No officer was injured, though one was transported to the hospital for blood exposure.
The Sparks Police Department is investigating the shooting, with assistance from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office. Reno Police are also conducting an internal investigation. The District Attorney's office will ultimately decide if the shooting was lawful or not.
AUGUST 28 UPDATE:
The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a man who died after being shot by Reno Police earlier this month on I-80.
22-year-old Anthony Porter of Sparks died after being shot by police between Mogul and Boomtown on the night of August 23.
The manner of death was homicide, according to a release from the Medical Examiner's Office, and the cause was multiple gunshot wounds.
The Sparks Police Department is handling the investigation.

Sparks Police are investigating a Reno Police shooting that happened on I-80 between Mogul and Boomtown late Sunday night.
Reno Police say they responded to the scene around 11:30 p.m. along with Nevada Highway Patrol after an overturned car was found along the interstate.
While no other immediate details have been released, we do know that the incident resulted in a police shooting.
As a result, the Regional Officer-Involved Shooting Protocol was activated. The Sparks Police Department is the primary investigating agency, with assistance from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.
There is no active threat to public safety.
