The Forest Service says the 728-acre Inn Fire in Mono County is now fully contained.
The cause remains under investigation after starting May 22nd near Mono City.
The Forest Service says, “from its lowest point near Mono Lake, the Inn Fire climbed more than 3,000 feet in elevation – over half a mile vertically as it spread upslope into steep, high-altitude terrain.”
A forest order closure was recently issued that'll remain in effect through the end of 2025 - due to safety hazards like rockfall, loose soils and burning stump holes.
In the Forest Service post, a fireline archeologist explained how experts are working to minimize the impact of firefighting operations on the landscape.

Update (5/29/2025, 8:28 a.m.):
Containment on the Inn Fire in Mono County remains at 82%, with the fire having burned 728 acres, according to an update from the U.S. Forest Service's Inyo National Forest Facebook page.
Firefighters continue to work toward full containment while conducting suppression repair and backhauling equipment no longer needed on the fireline.
An Inn Fire Closure Order has been issued for May 27 through December 31.
The order prohibits entrance into the Inn Fire Area Closure to protect public health and safety from environmental hazards, wildfire, and wildfire suppression operations.
Specific instructions are outlined in the attached letter and map of the area below:
Crews and equipment remain in the area. Officials urge the public to stay alert.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Forest Service say the Inn Fire in Mono County is now 70% contained at 728 acres.
The cause remains under investigation after last Thursday near Mono City.
There's no current estimated date on full containment.
Highway 395 also remains open to traffic after previously being temporarily shut down.

CAL FIRE and the U.S. Forest Service - Inyo National Forest are reporting that the containment on the Inn Fire has reached 54%. Fire size remains steady at 726 acres at last update.

CAL FIRE says the Inn Fire in Mono County remains 31% contained at 726 acres.
The Inn Fire started Thursday afternoon on the west side of Highway 395, just south of Mono City. The Forest Service says wind caused the fire to grow quickly and spot across the east side of Highway 395.
More than 550 personnel are helping fight the fire, which remains under investigation.
May 25:
The U.S. Forest Service Inyo National Forest shared an update on its Facebook page, saying the fire has grown to 726 acres and containment sits at 15%.
They say firefighters are making some progress, fire behavior has been minimal over the weekend, and growth has slowed.
Crews continue to build and reinforce fire lines, working in steep and rugged terrain to secure the fire’s edge.
Yesterday, the Mono County Sheriff’s Office downgraded evacuations from mandatory to advisory and power has been restored to all affected communities.

The Mono County Sheriff's Office has released new information regarding the evacuations issued for the Inn Fire.
Officials say that residents in Mono City are free to return home.
The shelter in Bridgeport has been closed.
U.S. 395 has been reopened, though there may be one-way traffic controls in place or escort vehicles as work continues.
According to CAL FIRE, at last update the size of the fire is estimated at 726 acres, and holding steady at 15% containment.

CAL FIRE reports containment is now up to 15%. and the fire has burned 707 acres so far.

On the CAL FIRE incident site for the Inn Fire in Mono County, California, the size of the fire has been updated to 640 acres.

Update (5/23/2025, 3:20 p.m.):
According to an update from Caltrans District 9, U.S. 395 between Lee Vining and Mono City in Mono County is expected to remain closed through the afternoon and into the evening, due to the Inn Fire.
Officials recommend that travelers on U.S. 395 between Bridgeport/Reno/Tahoe and Bishop/Inyo County/Southern California use detours to get around the closure.
They recommend that northbound traffic us U.S. 6 in Bishop.
According to the CAL FIRE incident page, the Inn Fire currently sits at 707 acres.
Original Story (5/22/2025, 10 p.m.):
U.S. 395 is currently closed from Lee Vining to SR 167 in Mono County due to a brush fire.
According to the CAL Fire incident page, the nearly 540-acre Inn Fire started around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
It's located off highway 395 and Mono Inn Road, south of Mono City. U.S. 395 is closed from Lee Vining to State Route 167.
Evacuation orders are in place. There are two evacuation shelters set up at Bridgeport Memorial Hall (73 North School Street) and at the Lee Vining Community Center (296 Mattly Avenue).
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
