A portion of Mt. Rose Highway remains closed after an avalanche occurred Thursday. 

It happened around mile marker 9 according to a social media post from the county.

Two to three inches of snow are on the road, which is closed from Joy Lake to Fairview.

Everyone in the area at the time of the avalanche activity made it out safely and nobody was injured.

Meanwhile, State Route 89 is closed in the Emerald Bay/Bliss State Park area.

I-80 has reopened to traffic with chains required while a closure on Mt. Rose Highway remains in place with no word on when it will lift.

Driving conditions on mountain roads are forcing multiple road closures in the Sierra.
