The City of South Lake Tahoe has announced an extensive list of capital improvement projects (CIP) scheduled to begin in 2025, totaling $120 million in implementation this summer.

The initiatives are part of the city’s continued efforts to improve its foundation, increase public safety, and support community development.

Among the featured projects is the ongoing construction of the Multi-Generational Recreation Center, which is expected to open in April 2026.

Additional recreation improvements include repairs to the current skatepark and the construction of a new street-style skatepark at Bijou Park.

A new segment of multi-use trail will be built along Al Tahoe Boulevard next to Bijou Park, and nine bicycle repair stations will be installed at various locations along the city's trail network to support bicycle maintenance.

Road improvements will include rehabilitation and paving in the Bonanza and Bijou Acres neighborhoods.

City maintenance crews will also perform crack sealing and pothole repairs throughout South Lake Tahoe.

Pioneer Trail, between Ski Run Boulevard and Larch Avenue, will be repaved and upgraded with sidewalks and lighting on both sides as part of a complete street project.

The second phase of the Tahoe Valley Greenbelt project includes upgrades to multi-use trails in the open space area behind The Crossing at Tahoe Valley commercial center.

This phase will also introduce stormwater infrastructure and treatment basins.

Further stormwater and drainage improvements will be made in the Bijou Park Creek and Bijou Acres areas.

Energy efficiency projects are included in the 2025 plan, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and long-term operational costs.

New solar canopies will be installed over parking at the corporation yard on D Street and at the Police Station to generate energy.

At the ice arena, the ice chiller system and transformer will be replaced, and a new roof will be installed to boost energy performance.

Several city facilities will receive upgraded energy system controls, and electric car charging stations will be installed at the D Street corporation yard to support the municipal electric fleet.

Additional facility upgrades include a new roof for the Police Station, installation of a new parking payment system and electric car charging stations at the parking garage, exterior painting of the Stateline Transit Center, and improvements to Fire Station 1.
