As long as the weather conditions remain favorable, the Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team is planning to continue prescribed burning this week.
The pile burning will be an undertaking by the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, California Tahoe Conservancy, Nevada Division of Forestry and the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.
Pile burning done in this manner protects communities by removing excess vegetation that can become fuel for unwanted fires.
Smoke will be present in the area of the burns, but officials say that prescribed fire smoke is generally less intense and of much shorter duration than wildfire smoke.
