Property Tax exemptions deadline

Renewal notices are heading to mailboxes across Washoe County, and there is a key date to keep in mind if you want those savings to apply.

Washoe County Assessor Chris S. Sarman is mailing the annual Property Tax Exemption Renewal Notices to qualified veterans, disabled veterans, surviving spouses, and blind people.

The Assessor’s Office says exemption holders must file their renewal by June 15, 2026, to have the exemption applied to real property taxes.

The exemption can also be applied to the Government Service Tax tied to car registration through the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, or toward personal property taxes, such as a mobile home or aircraft.

Renewal forms can be submitted by mail, online, in person, or by email.

The online renewal site is available at www.washoecounty.gov/assessor/exemptions.

People can also contact the Assessor’s Office by email at exemptions@washoecounty.govor by phone at (775) 328-2277.

For those who have not signed up, property tax exemptions are available to qualifying Nevada residents under state law, including surviving spouses, blind people, veterans, disabled veterans, and surviving spouses of disabled veterans.

Officials say the same June 15, 2026, deadline applies for new applicants who want the exemption to be reflected in the 2026-2027 fiscal year property taxes.

Applications and additional forms are available on the Assessor’s website. People who are unsure if they qualify are encouraged to contact the office by email or phone for more information.
