A United States District Judge sentenced a 32-year-old man on Friday to 15 years in prison for robbing two banks a gunpoint in Northern Nevada in January 2022.Â
After Jones plead guilty to one-count of interference with commerce by robbery, bank robbery, and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
In addition, Devon Jones's prison term will be followed by five years of supervised release for committing two armed robberies of financial institutions.Â
On January 24, 2022, prosecutors say Jones robbed a money lending business in Reno where he pointed a semi-automatic 9mm gun at one of the employees and demanded cash. Jones then fired one shot from the gun and fled from the business with the money.Â
Later, on January 27, 2022, Jones robbed a bank at gunpoint in Carson City.
Prosecutors say Jones entered the bank and began yelling at the employees, fired a shot from the gun and approached a teller and demanded cash. Jones after noticing the alarm lights in the bank start to flash fired another shot from the gun and ordered all employees to get on the ground, he fired another shot while leaving the bank with the stolen money.Â
