Early voting is well underway in Washoe County, after starting on October 17th. Preliminary numbers show that more than 2,200 people have already cast their ballots.

Several voters say early voting is more convenient for them, and one said she believes the data is helpful to campaigns.

“For one thing, it’s taken off my list of many things to do,” said Cindy Martinez. “It also enables campaigns to analyze where they need to focus their efforts in capturing votes that have not yet been registered.”

Martinez and another voter both said that whether it's early or on election day, they believe that voting is a right and a privilege.

“Our freedoms are important,” said Dan Gardella. “And our freedom to vote, and choose our government and our path forward in life.”

The Washoe County Registrar of Voters office has been recommending early voting, which they say will help with getting results out on election night quicker.

Thousands of voters have already turned out, and they expect thousands more to do so before early voting ends on October 30th.

“We did see some lines across early voting sites, about four or five really, really popular locations, and we've just been so excited that people are following our slogan of Don't Wait Washoe and getting those votes in early,” said George Guthrie, Public Information Officer for the Washoe County Registrar of Voters office.

Most vote centers did not have a wait on Monday, so folks were able to walk in and vote right away.

The Secretary of State's office has a webpage with real-time information on vote center wait times, which can be used for any county in Nevada.

The office also offers a page with information on how many votes have been cast in every county, and how many of each were for the two major parties or others. That can be found here.
