As snow falls in the valley and throughout The Sierra, chain controls are in place on several area roads.

On I-80 chain controls are in place from the Robb Drive exit in Reno to Colfax.

Several roads branching off from I-80 in The Sierra also have chain controls in place, including CA-89 from I-80 to Tahoe City and CA-267 from I-80 to North Lake Boulevard at Kings Beach.

CA-267 is also closed north of I-80 from I-80 to CA-70.

On Mt. Rose Highway chain controls are in place from Timberline Drive to Tahoe Boulevard.

Chain controls are also in place on I-580 through Washoe Valley and Carson City.

There are also chain controls on U.S. 395 just past Carson City to where the road branches off with SR-88. Chain controls are also in place on U.S. 395 past where it branches, from its intersection with SR-88 to Topaz Lake at the state line.

On SR-88 chain controls are in place from its intersection with U.S. 395 to the state line.

U.S. 395 alternate also has chain controls in place from Mt. Rose Highway to the intersection with I-580 near Service Berry Lane.

I-580 from its intersection with I-80 north to the California border also has chain controls.

Chain controls are also in place on U.S. 50 from U.S. 395 until the California state line, and on Kingsbury Grade Road from SR-206 to U.S. 50 near Lake Tahoe.

There are also chain controls in place on Geiger Grade Road from near Geiger Lookout Point to Virginia City.
