As ground broke on Tuesday for the Reno Arena, we wanted to reach out to students, the community, and event attendees to get their thoughts.
Many students had positive things to say about the billion-dollar arena. With excitement about what it could mean for Nevada athletics.Â
"I'm very excited to see what it's going to look like and all the new opportunities for our basketball players," said Natalia.Â
"It'll get more people going to the basketball games, also get players excited to play at a new stadium in the Mountain West Conference," said Colby.Â
"I think it's going to bring so much more excitement into the athletics here in Nevada," said Kinsley Singleton.Â
"As a student athlete, I love supporting our other sports. It's going to be amazing to go in there and see a brand-new dimension of innovative sports and athletics," said Bella Snyder.Â
In addition to the student body, attendees of the event and community members touched on what excites them.
"We're figuring it's going to put Reno on the map, I think, and we'll just see how everyone feels about it. I think it's a good thing," said Jay Primm, a Reno resident.Â
"I think it will really put the University and the town of Reno on the map, because this is like a state-of-the-art arena. I like to feel like a lot of college gymnasiums don't get this opportunity," said UNR Cheerleader Amanda Plowman.Â
Whether you are a UNR student, a sports fan, or someone who loves concerts, there will surely be something for everyone with this brand-new arena.Â
