The Davidson Academy has been ranked as the fourth-best high school nationwide and as the best high school in Nevada.
The academy draws students from the local community and all over the country to attend and seek out advanced educational opportunities.
The students here are very, very bright," said Colleen Harsin, the director at Davidson Academy. "You need to qualify to be able to come to this school. We are a unique type of public school in the state of Nevada and the country. There is no other place like it."
The vast majority of the academy's students are taking college-level courses before they graduate from the high school.
"We've got a great college profile," said Harsin. "We do a lot of college planning with these students, and they are accepted to top universities all over the country."
A lot of the students are STEM-oriented, focusing on subjects like math and science, but they also have strong humanities students who study English and history.
The students are also very competitive when it comes to academic opportunities and have their trophies and awards on display at the school to prove it.
"We have a fair number of mathletes here, as well as other students that are competing both at the state level and national level in their areas of interest,"Â said Harsin.
She also explains, "The Davidson Academy is a unique type of school. We don't have grade levels, so while we cover middle and high school curriculum and credits, students are placed based on their abilities across all subject levels, so if you're 10 years old and you're ready for calculus, you're placed into calculus; you're not limited by the grade-level courses available to you."
While this school is a middle and high school on a college campus, they do accept any age if they're able to pass the entrance exams. The youngest student they've ever had was nine years old.
The academy has a prospective learning plan, placing students according to their advanced abilities.
"I am very proud to be a part of the Davidson Academy community and look forward to what these students have to bring for this school year and where they go when they're done,"Â said Harsin.
The students at the Davidson Academy graduate with an advanced diploma in the State of Nevada.
The students also have to submit standardized testing to apply for the school and then have to take an in-person assessment to determine if the child is ready for what the school has to offer.
They have tests available on their website and are accepting applications now.
