Carson Gonzales, the 20-year-old who is accused of stabbing and killing his mother and putting another woman in the hospital, had his first bail hearing on Wednesday.

Gonzales was not present during the hearing, and his defense asked for an interim no bail hold, which was granted.

The defense is also asking for a competency evaluation before his next hearing.

Tentatively there's an arraignment and mandatory status conference scheduled for May 8.

Depending on when they get that evaluation, that date could change.

We previously reported that the woman who died was the mother of Carson Gonzales, and was a Sparks High School teacher.

The family has identified the victim who was transported to the hospital as Angela Clay.

"Angela is recovering slowly, but surely, but some great news she was moved out of the ICU last night," said Chris Battenberg, Clay's brother-in-law. "She's in a normal room which is huge as far as her recovery concerns. That being said she has a long road ahead of her."

Battenberg says the family is trying rally together and around her during this time.

"The best we can I guess, you know," he said. "The family is picking up when one of them falls down kind of you know, if somebody is having a tough day the rest of the family rallies around them to help bring them back up into spirits."

According to recent court documents, a neighbor was attending to Clay after she was stabbed and beaten.

"No, they didn't might, they saved her life," Battenberg said. "There's a gentleman that in specific was mentioned by first responders. That if it wasn't for his actions, my sister would not be here right now and my family, I hope he sees this, my family is eternally grateful to that man."

Clay, and Carla Gonzales, the Sparks High School teacher and mother of Carson Gonzales who was killed, were best friends, and really close to her family.

"I don't have the words to explain how big of a loss it is losing her," Battenberg said.

He also said that Carla Gonzales would light up any room she walked in.

"She was always ready for a hug, she was always there to help you if you needed something. She was like the family mom, she was always there to help. She was a beautiful human... the worlds a worse place without her."

While Clay tries to get over her injuries, the finances of medical care are another burden.

"This isn't something you expect to happen to you or a family member," Battenberg said. "You don't have a six figure bank account waiting for something like this and unfortunately it did happen to my sister, and we need all the help that we can get trying to get her financially stable after this."

Both victims have GoFundMe pages set up to help with money. They can be found below.
