You can learn more about defensible space for your home at a public event next week in Reno.Â
Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue crews will be at Swill Coffee & Wine on Wednesday, April 2 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 3366 Lakeside Court in Reno.Â
ResQ magazine says it is taking applications for the free program - for seniors and veterans.
Getting rid of things like dead or dense vegetation can help reduce wildfire threat.
"Get rid of those pesky junipers, brush, plants, etc. surrounding your home so this summer you can be ready if there is a fire with a buffer defensible space."Â
If you can't make it, you can also learn about defensible space through the Living With Fire guide below -Â
