Dayton Fatal

JULY 7 UPDATE:

The Nevada Highway Patrol has released the identities of two people killed in a crash involving a semi-truck last month, as well as other details about the crash.

55-year-old Sergio Villanueva III and 49-year-old Jennifer Villanueva, both of Dayton, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on June 28 at the intersection of U.S. 50 and Traditions Parkway in Dayton.

Preliminary investigation shows that a red Toyota Rav4 was stopped at the intersection in the left lane on U.S. 50 while traveling west. A white Volkswagen Beetle driven by Sergio Villanueva III was approaching the intersection in the right lane, also heading west.

A white Tesla semi-truck with an attached trailer was also heading west on U.S. 50 in the right lane, behind the Beetle.

The driver of the Tesla did not slow down as it approached the Beetle, NHP says in a release. The semi hit the Beetle, and both vehicles continued west. The semi then entered the left lane, hitting the Rav4.

The driver of the Rav4 was removed from their car by firefighters and taken to an area hospital via Care Flight with serious injuries.

The driver of the semi-truck did not report any injuries from the crash.

The Nevada Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident.
