Isolated patches of black ice are being reported Thursday morning as leftover puddles freeze, leading to slick conditions. Mainly in the foothills, where temperatures are cooler. Bridges and overpasses can also turn icy pretty quick. Most roads below 5000’ and closer to downtown as well as the airport are dry.
Rain totals were very light yesterday, ranging from a trace at the Reno airport to slightly higher totals in the foothills. Only a trace was reported in Lovelock on Wednesday, but radar shows rain totals closer to a quarter of an inch west of Battle Mountain. A trace of new snow was also reported at Mt. Rose Ski.
Thanks to leftover moisture and clearing skies, it’s also quite foggy in Truckee Thursday morning. Freezing fog lowers visibility and can create a glaze on the roadways. The fog will clear out by late morning giving way to sunny skies in the afternoon. It will be a nice ski day after the fog clears out. Highs will be in the lower 40’s at lake level and mid 30’s in the high Sierra with gusts over 20mph.
