Billinghurst Middle School and Westergard Elementary School were both placed on secured campus status on Thursday afternoon.

The move was made due to a report of police activity near the schools, according to messages sent to parents by each school's principal.

The Human Exploitation and Trafficking Team was in the area searching for a suspect in a case, according to a spokesperson for the Reno Police Department.

That suspect was wanted for sex trafficking and had earlier fled from them on foot before being found and taken into custody.

The secured campus for Billinghurst was announced at 2:51 p.m., with the secured campus for Westergard announced at 3:04 p.m.

Normal operations for both schools resumed just after 3:30 p.m.

Police say there is no active threat to the public.
