Multiple law enforcement agencies came together for a gang suppression operation last Friday that resulted in multiple arrests, including someone wanted on a warrant for murder in San Francisco.
The Regional Gang Unit led the coordinated operation, which focused on a concert at a venue in downtown Reno.
Investigators gathered intelligence that the event could attract documented criminal street gang members and associates, including influential members of the Calle Side Hill gang who were originally scheduled to perform.
During the operation, law enforcement focused on identifying gang members and associates, gathering criminal intelligence, conducting proactive enforcement, addressing impaired driving, and maintaining a strong law enforcement presence.
There were no gang-related assaults, fights, weapons incidents, or other violence reported during the event.
Intel gathered by law enforcement showed that influential gang members chose not to attend the event due to a combination of heavy police presence and recent gang enforcement efforts.
The operation resulted in the arrest of a fugitive wanted on an active San Francisco murder warrant. Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputies assigned to the operation identified, located, and took the suspect into custody.
During the operation, there were seven arrests, including the murder warrant and one for DUI.
There were also nine tickets written, six vehicle checks, seven subject stops, and 42 traffic stops.
10 cases were generated during the operation.
The Reno Police Department worked in coordination with the RGU on the operation, as did the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, Northern Nevada Regional Intelligence Center, Real Time Intelligence Center, Human Exploitation and Trafficking Unit, Mobile Enforcement Team, Washoe County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit, Nevada State Parole and Probation, regional dispatchers, and other specialized units.
