The Elko Bomb Squad safely disposed of ordnance found near South Fork on Monday.Â
Â
Police say members from the Elko Bomb Squad responded to the remote property after being notified by the Elko County Sheriff's Office that the owners of the property had found a backpack containing what appeared to be a modified "pineapple" style grenade and dynamite.
Â
Elko Bomb Squad personnel responded and determined that the grenade and dynamite, as well as one electric blasting cap and a Vietnam-era smoke grenade, could be safely detonated on the property, near Meadow View Drive.
Â
If you suspect that you have improperly stored explosives on your property, contact your local authorities.
Â
Elko Police say the owner of the dynamite and improvised grenade had passed away and no charges are being sought.
