Drone flying lessons

Staff members from the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows took to the skies in a mock drone race on Tuesday.

The staff members learned how to fly drones with the help of the Desert Research Institute here in Reno.

The Boys & Girls Club said they plan to use what they learn to organize drone races for kids in the program.

"The kids are excited because it's hands-on learning. They are learning piloting skills which is great if you want to become a drone pilot. It is also great if you are into computer science and coding," says AJ Long, Director of Nevada Robotics, DRI

She said flying drones could open up learning opportunities for STEM careers including aviation, drone and aerospace industries here in Northern Nevada.
