The sound of heavy equipment and the promise of a family-friendly tradition will take center stage in Reno next month.

The Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation is hosting Bulldozers and Beer, a kickoff event for its annual Dozers and Dirt celebration, on Thursday, April 16, at South 40 in Reno.

The event runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 1445 S Meadows Pkwy and is designed as a community gathering to launch planning for the larger Dozers and Dirt event scheduled later this year.

Organizers say the evening will include appetizers, drinks, raffle prizes, and recognition for the 2025 Dozers and Dirt awards, while also introducing a major change for the upcoming event.

Dozers and Dirt gives children 17 and younger the chance to operate more than 35 pieces of heavy construction equipment. The event also features close-up displays that include the RAVEN helicopter, a bomb unit, police cars, fire trucks, and other equipment used by public safety crews.

During the kickoff, organizers will also announce the new location for the Dozers and Dirt event, which will move to the Tracy Clark Aggregate Plant off USA Parkway.

The Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation says the launch event is intended to encourage more community participation ahead of the annual tradition, which drew nearly 4,000 children last year.

All proceeds from Dozers and Dirt support the foundation’s mission of helping local families and children affected by cancer.

Organizers also credited sponsors and a planning committee of 25 community leaders from the safety, building, and trades industries who helped organize the event.

The Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation is the only nonprofit in the region dedicated solely to helping local children and families dealing with childhood cancer.

Its programs include the Family Assistance Fund, the Inspire Scholarship program, the Hope for the Holidays program, and emotional support efforts such as No More Chemo celebrations and family activities.
