A month of undercover work in the Reno and Sparks area came to a head with a traffic stop that led detectives to more than three pounds of methamphetamine and $8,178 in cash.
The Regional Narcotics Unit had been investigating suspected drug trafficking and distribution for about a month before detectives stopped a vehicle on Oct. 1 near Sutro Street and Selmi Drive in Reno. The vehicle was being driven by 23-year-old Maicol Martinez-Ramirez, a California resident. Washoe County Sheriff's Office K9 deputies assisted with the stop, and a search of the vehicle turned up the drugs and cash.
Martinez-Ramirez was arrested and booked into the Washoe County Sheriff's Office Detention Facility. He faces charges of trafficking of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
