Carson City is getting ready for a behind-the-scenes change that most people will notice only when they look closely at a web address or an email.
On January 8, at 7 a.m., the city will migrate its website from the carson.org domain to carsoncity.gov. All city email addresses will also change to end in @carsoncity.gov by January 1.
City officials say the move is about clarity and confidence. The .gov domain is reserved for official United States government organizations and comes with strict federal verification and security standards.
Those requirements are designed to reduce the risk of impersonation or fraud and make it easier for people to trust messages they receive.
By adopting a .gov domain, Carson City will align itself with other municipalities, counties, and federal agencies. The change creates a consistent and professional identity across websites, emails, and services, while reinforcing the city’s credibility.
Officials also say the shift helps the city prepare for future compliance requirements and makes it easier to expand secure online services over time.
People with questions or who want more information about the migration can call (775) 887-2100 or email carsonit@carsoncity.gov.
