The Carson City Sheriff's Office, using investigative genetic genealogy, have identified human remains found in 1994.

Alan Don Bishop was reported missing by his family in Salt Lake City, Utah in July 1984. Bishop was dealing with mental health issues and was known to travel by hitchhiking.

His family lost contact with him while he was traveling to Oregon by way of California.

In May 1994, a logging crew discovered a partial human skull at a work site in the Spooner Summit area.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies searched the surrounding area but found no additional human remains. They say the remains showed no signs of trauma.

The Washoe Country Regional Medical Examiner’s Office affirmed the identification of Alan Don Bishop, and his family has been notified.

The investigation is ongoing.
