Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada has launched two new programs meant to fight against the opioid epidemic.
Together, the non-profit says the programs represent more than $1.6 million in new funding that will provide comprehensive, evidence-based services focused on recovery, housing stability and long-term self-sufficiency.
First, the Family Stabilization and Recovery program provides rapid-response, family-centered services for Washoe County families experiencing crises related to opioid use. It's funded through the State of Nevada's Fund for a Resilient Nevada.
This program received a $1.1 million award to help families have access to crisis intervention, housing support, parenting education, transportation, kinship caregiver assistance and economic mobility coaching.
Catholic Charities says Nevada ranks fourth in the nation for opioid abuse.
The second program, the Opioid Street Outreach Program will offer housing, treatment and recovery services to unhoused people struggling with opioid use disorder.
The program received $533,860 in first-year funding from the Washoe Opioid Abatement and Recovery Fund.
Both programs began serving the community on July 1, 2026.
