As temperatures begin to drop across Northern Nevada, Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada is asking the community to take a look in their closets and consider donating gently used coats, jackets, shoes, and other fall essentials to help local families prepare for colder weather.
The organization is collecting seasonal clothing and footwear for adults and children through its two St. Vincent's Thrift Stores in Reno and Sparks. Donations help provide affordable clothing for families while also generating funding for Catholic Charities' programs serving people in need.
"As the weather turns colder, having access to warm clothing and sturdy shoes becomes even more important for individuals and families struggling to make ends meet," said Marie Baxter, CEO of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada. "Donating a gently used coat, pair of boots, or warm clothing is a simple way to make a meaningful difference. Every donation to our St. Vincent’s Thrift Stores helps provide affordable essentials while supporting our mission of bringing hope and stability to vulnerable individuals and families throughout Northern Nevada."
Items especially needed include jackets, coats, sweaters, sweatshirts, long pants, boots, shoes, and other seasonal clothing.
Donations can be dropped off daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at either location:
St. Vincent's Thrift Shop: 500 East Fourth Street in Reno.
St. Vincent's Super Thrift: 190 E. Glendale Avenue in Sparks.
Catholic Charities also operates multiple donation drop-off centers throughout the area. Those locations are open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A list of drop-off locations is available at Catholic Charities' donation drop-off page.
The thrift stores also offer affordable clothing, shoes, and seasonal essentials for shoppers looking to update their wardrobes while supporting local programs.
St. Vincent's Thrift Shop in Reno is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. St. Vincent's Super Thrift in Sparks is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Money generated through the sale of donated items helps fund Catholic Charities' poverty assistance programs. Those services include providing 1,400 hot meals each day through the St. Vincent's Dining Room, operating a food pantry, and supporting employment for program residents.
