A head-on crash early Sunday morning on U.S. Highway 95 near Winnemucca sent several people to the hospital and left one child dead.
According to the Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 6:20 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, near mile marker 5, about five miles north of Winnemucca in Humboldt County.
Troopers said a white Toyota Camry was traveling south in the southbound lane when it crossed the center dividing line into the northbound lane.
A silver Ford F-150, towing a utility trailer, was traveling north when the driver attempted to steer left to avoid the Toyota. The front right side of the Toyota struck the front right side of the Ford.
A third car, a silver Nissan Armada, was damaged by debris from the crash, but no injuries were reported from that car.
The driver and passenger of the Toyota were transported from the scene for medical treatment. The passenger suffered serious injuries.
The driver of the Ford and two children riding in the truck were also taken to a hospital with serious injuries. One of the children later died at the hospital.
The crash remains an open investigation and is being handled by the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit.
