The City of Reno has secured almost $1.7 million in funds to launch a citywide project to improve safety in school zones.

The project aims to replace static school zone signs with flashing school zone beacons - 114 new beacons, to be exact.

Both overhead-mounted and side-mounted flashers will be installed at priority school zones all across the city.

According to a memo filed by the City of Reno, the zones selected for the beacon upgrades were determined based on where they are most needed to enhance safety of the students. Zones with the greatest safety concerns were prioritized.
