With the warmer weather comes a heightened risk of fire danger - and the City of Reno and Reno Fire Department want to make sure you are prepared.

Community members are invited to an Emergency Preparedness Open House happening on Saturday, April 5 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

The open house will be at the Damonte Ranch High School in Reno.

Experts will be on hand to teach attendees about topics like planning an evacuation route, building a go-bag, setting up defensible space and preparing for power outages.

Officials say that residents do not need to be located within Ward 6 to attend.

Partner organizations for the event include Reno Police Department, NV Energy, Truckee Meadows Water Authority and the National Weather Service.

Organizers will also be setting up a kids area where firefighters will be walking kids through fire awareness activities.
