Authorities have identified the pedestrian hit and killed along U.S. 50 near Rocky Road in Silver Springs last month.

The incident happened just after 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14th.

Nevada Highway Patrol says a preliminary investigation shows that a Ford F-150 was heading west when it went off the roadway, hit a paddle marker, a light pole and then the pedestrian who was standing along the unpaved right shoulder of U.S. 50. After that, the truck hit a stop sign and then stopped.

NHP says the pedestrian, 59-year-old Juan Hernandez Mendez of Vallejo, died on scene.

The truck driver was not hurt.

NHP says impairment is not suspected of being a factor in this crash.

The Nevada Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating this crash.

A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a car along U.S. 50 near Rocky Road in Silver Springs late Wednesday night.

The incident happened just before 11:40 p.m.

Nevada Highway Patrol says a car heading west went off the roadway, hit a paddle marker and a light pole and then struck a pedestrian walking along the road.

The unidentified person died on scene.

NHP says the driver, who was not hurt, stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
