Students at Damonte Ranch High School wrapped up a project that had the campus buzzing on Thursday when they filled a small VW bug with donated toys for the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation.
The effort was part of the annual “Stuff da Bug” Toy Drive, where Student Leadership members collect new, packaged, unwrapped toys, excluding stuffed animals.
The drive was launched last year by a former Damonte Ranch High School parent whose son was a cancer survivor who received support from the foundation.
Students aimed to gather two hundred toys by December 11, and they spent the morning working toward that goal outside the school from 11 a.m. to noon. They made a final push for more toys as the deadline approached, and the car was filled.
School staff said they were proud of the work the students put into organizing the collection and helping support families facing childhood cancer.
