Douglas County says Minden-Tahoe SkyFest has been selected as the official new name for the County’s signature aviation event, previously known as the Aviation Roundup.

The new name was chosen through a community voting process held earlier this year. 

Minden-Tahoe SkyFest will take place October 16–18, 2026, at the Minden-Tahoe Airport. The event will feature world-class aerial performances by the Patriots Jet Team, an after-dark aviation experience, ground displays, and family-friendly activities celebrating aviation in the Sierra region.

“This new name captures both our location and our spirit—it celebrates the skies, our community, and the long-standing tradition of aviation excellence here in Douglas County,” said Heather MacDonnell, Minden-Tahoe Airport Manager. “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who voted and helped shape the future of this event.”

Volunteers Needed

Douglas County is currently seeking volunteers for the 2026 Minden-Tahoe SkyFest. Roles include guest services, parking coordination, exhibitor assistance, and event logistics.

The Minden–Tahoe airshow is returning to the Minden-Tahoe Airport in October - and this year organizers are inviting you to be part of the journey!

After years under the name Aviation Roundup, event organizers have announced plans to rebrand the airshow ahead of this year's October 16-18th event.

“This airshow belongs to the community,” said Airport Manager Heather MacDonnell. “We want the new name to reflect local pride, excitement, and the future of the event. Who better to help choose it than the people who attend, support, and celebrate it?”

People are invited to vote on a shortlist of proposed names.

Finalist names include:

* Minden–Tahoe SkyFest

* High Desert Skies Airshow

* Sierra Thunder Airshow

* Keep it the same “Aviation Roundup”

The winning name will become the official identity of the airshow moving forward and will be unveiled later this year.

This year's airshow weekend will feature:

* The airshow’s very first night show with illuminated aircraft and pyrotechnics

* Performances by the Patriots Jet Team, one of the nation’s premier jet demonstration teams
