Partnership Douglas County

Partnership Douglas County, a local non-profit, and Douglas County will host a 'Steered Straight Parent Night Presentation' to the public on Monday evening.

Organizers say the presentation offers an impactful event that offers valuable insights and resources to parents and community members, an event made possible, in part, by the support of Douglas County’s One Nevada grant.

The free presentation will take place tonight beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center in the Grandview Dining Room located at 1329 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.

Organizers say that attendees will have an opportunity to hear a powerful presentation on substance abuse prevention and youth empowerment from Michael DeLeon, a nationally recognized renowned speaker whose expertise provides an invaluable perspective on the current landscape of substance abuse, he will explore the following critical topics:

  • Understanding substance abuse and addiction.
  • Insights into the opioid and heroin epidemic.
  • Trends in youth substance use, like alcohol, nicotine, and marijuana.
  • Marketing strategies targeting youth.
  • Recognizing substance use disorders in adolescents and adults.
  • Tips for meaningful conversations with children about drug and alcohol use.

Douglas County says the focus of the event aims to equip parents and guardians with the tools they need to navigate conversations about substance use with their children effectively.

Organizers say that although the event is free to the public, registration is required. To register for the presentation click here.
