The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office is warning of a new telephone scam that is happening in the county.
People are getting phone calls from someone saying they are a deputy, sergeant, or lieutenant with the ECSO.
The caller tells the victim they missed a court date, have a fine they must pay to stay out of jail, and tells them to pay it by phone.
The Sheriff's Office will never request a fine to be paid over the phone, according to a post from the Sheriff's Office on Facebook.
Anyone who gets a call like this is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office to verify the information.
