On Tuesday, the Reno Arch will light up in blue to pay tribute to law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.
The 15th annual "Turn the Arch Blue" ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m.
The ceremony will feature a reading of the names of fallen officers, including those who have ties to the Reno area, according to a release from the Reno Police Department.
Special tribute will be paid to Reno Police Officer Keith Tadashi Hashimoto, with his family participating in the ceremonial lighting of the Arch.
Hashimoto lost his life during a joint training exercise between RPD S.W.A.T. and the US. Navy SEALs at Fallon Naval Air Station in March of 1996.
“Turning the Arch blue is a powerful and visible reminder that we will never forget the sacrifices made by our law enforcement officers,” said Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance in the release. “It is also a time to come together—families, friends, officers, and neighbors—as one community of remembrance and respect.”
Officers, their families, and the public are encouraged to attend the ceremony. All are also invited to display blue lights at their homes and businesses throughout May to show support.
