A fatal crash is closing Sun Valley Boulevard in both directions on Tuesday evening.

The crash happened around 6:50 p.m. near Gepford Parkway, according to a release from the Nevada Highway Patrol.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle was going south on Sun Valley Boulevard in the right lane.

The vehicle exited the road onto the right shoulder, where a woman riding a scooter was hit.

The vehicle continued driving south into a ditch and rolled.

The rider of the scooter was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with reportedly non-life-threatening injuries.

All lanes in both directions are closed between 4th Avenue and Gepford Parkway, according to a release from NHP. The closure is expected to be in place until 11 p.m.

NHP says to expect extended delays in the area.

People are advised to avoid the area and take alternate routes if possible.
