It's Reno's hottest St. Patrick's Day on record. But that won't stop folks from celebrating, and first responders are reminding revelers about the dangers of heat combined with alcohol.

"Imagine your body as a big bottle of water, right? And, you pour a shot of alcohol into that bottle of water. If it's a full bottle of water, there's not as much alcohol in that total volume," said Dr. John Hardwick from Renown Health. "Now, if you have half a bottle of water and you put that shot into that bottle of water, you can imagine that there's more alcohol, by concentration."

He says that alcohol also dehydrates a person, which leads right back to that bottle of water theory.

With it being St. Patrick's Day, people are planning to go out and celebrate with some drinking.

"Gonna be hanging out with some friends, going to grab a couple drinks here or there," said Reno Resident Andrew Garcia. "I think we're going to do a little bit of a crawl together."

Police are asking people moving from one place to another to do so safely.

"Make sure you're using crosswalks, looking both ways," said RPD Officer Hunter Mercurio. "If you can wear brighter reflective clothing or make yourself seen, try to make eye contact with those drivers before you cross the street, just so that they know that you're crossing."

And if someone needs to cool off, the river is not the place to do that while intoxicated.
