Governor Joe Lombardo toured the site of the Thacker Pass lithium mine to see progress being made on the project.
Thacker Pass says crews are currently developing an area for the project's processing facilities, with about 900 workers on site.
The project is expected to ramp up in the coming months, with up to 1,800 workers anticipated at the construction's peak.
Once operational, the first phase of the project is expected to produce 40,000 metric tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate annually, a key component for electric cars and energy storage.
Governor Lombardo says the project will create jobs and support local businesses, while making Nevada a leader in the development and supply of critical minerals.
