ORIGINAL STORY - OCTOBER 16
Film crews were recently spotted at Virginia Lake in South Reno, drawing curiosity from residents about what was being filmed.
As of Thursday, production at that specific location appears to have ended. Observers noted that most equipment and set pieces are gone, with only a small barricade remaining.
According to the City of Reno, a film permit was issued under the name “My New Friend Jim” for intermittent production from October 13 through November.
Production details on the industry website productionlist.com confirm that “My New Friend Jim” is being filmed in Reno.
The project summary describes it as a story about “an aristocratic casino exec and a volatile veteran” who bond after the exec admits his daughter ran away following his accidental killing of her drug-dealing boyfriend. Together, they search for her while confronting fatherhood, morality, and justice.
The film’s listed production team includes producers Anthony Mastromauro and Ash Avildsen, along with casting director Nancy Nayor.
Additional details about the film’s cast, schedule, and local impact have not yet been released. This is a developing story, and we will continue updating it as more information becomes available.
