Officers from multiple agencies came together on Thursday to honor Trooper Gary Vance Gifford, the first Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper to die in the line of duty.
Gifford died on October 14, 1975, according to a release from the Nevada State Police.
He was shot and killed after making a traffic stop on a bank robbery suspect on U.S. 50, at Cave Rock.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a dedicated law enforcement officer.
Representatives from the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Division, the California Highway Patrol, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Nevada Police Union, and retired law enforcement across the region joined the Gifford family, including his son Jim Gifford, to honor the fallen trooper.
