Washoe County's Search & Rescue team rescued five people and two dogs after they got stuck in deep snow near Verdi.

The sheriff's office says the group of off-roaders got stuck on the dirt extension of Garson Road Monday night.

Deputies say one vehicle became stuck in the snow while off-roading and called for help, but the second vehicle that responded also became stuck.

WCSO SAR deployed a team of volunteers from our Specialized Vehicle Unit (SVU) along with a medic. They say the team drove their side-by-sides into the mountains and located the stranded vehicles.

The SAR volunteers successfully transported five people and two dogs out of the mountains and to safety.

"Our volunteers are always ready to answer the call to serve our community. They are experts in their fields and train year-round to be prepared when emergencies arise. We appreciate their dedication and commitment to helping those in need," says the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.Â
