As the 250th birthday of the US Army was celebrated in Washington, D.C., the Nevada National Guard hosted a Flag Day celebration today in Carson City.

The event was held in cooperation with the Nevada State Archives, which was open for the public to see its newest exhibit honoring Nevadans who served in several wars.

We spoke with Nevada Adjutant General Daniel Waters, about why flag day is so important. He says, "We all dedicate our lives to ensure other people have the freedoms that's allowed in our country. You don't get that anywhere else in the world. So though I may disagree with somebody, I've changed my life and dedicated my life so they can have those freedoms."

The Nevada Air Guard gave a historical presentation to commemorate Flag Day, and the event was emceed by 2 News Nevada's Alexandra Rae.
