For some Washoe County School District students, free meals won't be available after this Friday, September 6.
As we reported earlier this year, Nevada governor Joe Lombardo vetoed the Universal School Meals Bill in June, which means Nevada K-12 students don't automatically get free meals like they did during the pandemic.
Governor Lombardo responded to criticisms in an open letter to families in August, highlighting the fact that families can still apply for meal assistance if their school is one of the ones no longer providing meals for free.
68 schools will still continue to offer free meals after the September 6 deadline.
