A grant given by the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety to the Reno Police Department Traffic Division allowed for the focus on pedestrian and school zone safety.
During the month of October, the department conducted an operation that issued 71 traffic citations and 13 warnings for drivers and pedestrians violating laws.
According to RPD, Nevada state law requires people on the streets to use sidewalks, crosswalks and pedestrian bridges and obey all traffic-control signs and signals.
It also says that if there are no sidewalks, people must walk on the left side of the street, facing traffic.
For drivers, the law requires that they must give pedestrians the right-away and avoid passing vehicles that are stopped for pedestrians on the streets.
RPD reminds the public that all people using roadways to share, stay alert and be aware of your surroundings, and abide by all laws.
