The Grand Sierra Resort is donating $15,000 to Robert Mitchell Elementary and Vaughn Middle School to show their commitment to northern Nevada communities including the Washoe County School District.
The resort says they want to help these schools that carry a close relationship with their families and have partnered with for over 20 years.
Kent Vaughn, senior vice president of hotel operation for the GSR, says, "It's in a zoned area that a lot of our team members live and so we feel it's great to give back to the community, especially to the areas that their parents work on our property."
The principal of Vaughn Middle, Mandy Lobkowicz, says this money is being used to support athletic equipment and student and staff incentives including a special program called "Positive Behavior Interventions and Support", also known as PBIS.
Lobkowicz says, "Students earn eagle bucks for doing positive things whether it's academic or behaviorally positive things. The they can buy treats and snacks and school supplies on Fridays at lunch. So, the money from the GSR allows us to have some really cool rewards for our students."
