The identity of a victim in a fatal crash on the Galena Creek Bridge on Friday has been released, along with additional details about the crash.
38-year-old Eric Burns of Carson City was pronounced dead at an area hospital following the crash according to a release from the Nevada State Police.
On Friday, February 7th around 8 a.m. the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol responded to a report of a crash on the Galena Creek Bridge.
Preliminary investigation showed that a 2017 Subaru WRX driven by Burns was heading northbound on I-580 approaching a prior crash.
A Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District fire engine was parked on the scene of this crash with its emergency lights on while partially located in a travel lane.
Burns was driving the Subaru too fast for the road conditions, the release said. He lost control and the Subaru began to rotate with the left side of the Subaru hitting the rear corner of the fire engine.
There were no injuries to firefighters or other personnel on scene.
The Nevada Highway Patrol Region Two Northern Command Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the crash.
