Prescribed burning US Forest Service

The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is planning to continue prescribed burns throughout the Tahoe area.

According to officials, pending all required approvals, they estimate prescribe burn work will continue through the fall and winter as weather conditions allow. 

Prescribed fires planned for the area include:

  • Cascade FA 242 Rx, El Dorado County, Spring Creek
  • Cascade 132 Rx, El Dorado County, Spring Creek 
  • Cascade 118 Rx, El Dorado County, Spring Creek
  • Big Meadow RX, El Dorado County, Luther Pass
  • Lilly Lake, El Dorado County, Benwood Meadow
  • Montreal Rx, Douglas County, U.S. Highway 50

These areas will be closed to the public for several days; this is due to public safety.

Officials say to watch for warning signs along roads near all prescribed fire areas.

Residents are also warned they may see smoke in the air, officials recommend while driving to slow down and turn on your headlights when you see smoke on the road.

According to the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, prescribed fires to help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.
