The Nevada Department of Transportation and Nevada Division of Forestry will begin maintenance work on Mt. Rose Highway from Monday, May 12, through Thursday, May 15.

The maintenance work will involve lane closures and reductions near Galena Creek Regional Park and Joy Lake Road.

According to NDOT, in an online X post, "Lane closures on Mt. Rose Highway above Galena Creek Regional Park (near Joy Lake Road) will be in place from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily Monday, May 12, through Thursday, May 15, as they clear roadside ditches and remove trees; drivers should plan for extra travel time."

In addition, a half-mile section of the highway between Joy Lake Road and Douglas Fir Drive will be reduced to one lane on Monday, May 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. as crews also clear roadside ditches and remove trees.

Traffic at this location will continue through the area, but delays are expected as flaggers and pilot cars alternate traffic in both directions.

While most delays are expected to be brief, drivers should anticipate delays of up to 30 minutes.

The schedules for both locations are subject to change based on weather and other conditions.
