De-Icer on Bridge

Routine maintenance of bridge anti-icing systems will be adding some traffic changes to I-580 for the next few days.

Alternating directions of Interstate 580 will be reduced to one lane south of Reno between November 5-7 as the Nevada Department of Transportation performs the maintenance.

Sections of the road will be reduced to one lane between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. those three days between Mt. Rose Highway and old U.S. 395-ALT exit 16.

Lane closures will only be taking place on one direction of the interstate at a time.

While lanes are reduced, speed limit will also be reduced to 55 mph through the work zone.

Drivers in the area should anticipate moderate travel delays.

NDOT reports that the work schedule is subject to change.

The crews will be cleaning and refreshing the automatic anti-icing systems on the four I-580 bridges between Mt. Rose Highway and the Bowers Mansions area.

The system is converted between a summer water solution to a wintertime solution each year, and then back again for summertime.

The anti-icing system helps to delay ice from forming on the surface of the bridges.
