Many families were out trick-or-treating Friday night, and the Governor's Mansion in Carson City was ready for kids to make their way there.
Folks at the Governor's Mansion told us they usually get thousands of kids and their families coming through there for this event.
Kristen Dillard, the Executive Coordinator at the Governor’s Mansion, said, "Mostly it's just a fun night. It's just about the kids, so it's just that kind of excitement. The chatter is just where they're going next. How much candy they get. Costumes are great. So it's a fun night for the kids. It's a community event."
They said the community really comes together for this event, volunteering to hand out the candy and even donate some candy. They said they have about a thousand pounds of candy to hand out.
Dillard said, "This whole event is on a volunteer basis, so we have entertainment. We have a ragtime band that's going to start at 5 p.m., and then we have Christian Brodersen, who is a DJ who plays all night long, and then we have Controlled Burn. Who are there, the fire dancing group, awesome, the highlight of the evening."
Neighbors throughout the area like to participate with the decorations throughout their yards, and for one kid who's grown up here, decorating with their family has always been the highlight of this season.
Bobby McFadden, a Carson City native, told us, "Ever since I was little, I always remember us going big and all that. But we've gone on and on and over as the years have gone. We used to do a makeshift maze like this where it's just like cloths going up, and it's cool, so then we did this, and I know it's just like a gradual increase in scariness every year."
